WAMA SLOW JAM
Second Saturday -- October through May
Next Slow Jam is: October 12, 2019
Our next Slow Jam will be October 12, 2019 at the Hope Grange in Winlock.
See directions to Hope Grange below.
The May 11th Slow Jam was a great way to end our Slow Jam season!
We had a fantastic attendance, some terrific jamming, a delicious potluck break, and some outstanding open mic presentations.
We had lots of FUN and a wonderful time!
Our May 11th Slow Jam was our last of this season. It's hard to believe, but summer and music festival season are nearly here. WAMA continues to grow and to improve with each successive year. Next year will not be an exception. To celebrate the end of this year's terrific group of Slow Jams and WAMA events, we will jam from 1:00 pm until about 2:30 pm and then take a break to enjoy a full-fledged potluck from 3:00 until 4:00 pm. Please bring a favorite dish to share with others.
Immediately following the break will be an unlimited open mic where whoever wants to may perform up to two songs. Get to practicing, as we would all love to hear what you've been working on!
Both our Slow Jam at The Hope Grange and our Jam at The Oakview Grange are free regardless if you are WAMA members or not. Newcomers are always encouraged to attend and participate or to just drop by, listen, and check us out. As a nonprofit organization, we graciously accept donations which help pay for the facilities we rent for our events, but they are not required. If you've never attended one of our jams, you owe it to yourself to discover how much fun they truly are. It would be great to see you at our next jam!
You can download WAMA's Slow Jam Chord Pamphlet by clicking HERE (revised Sept 23, 2018). This is a complete WAMA chord pamphlet which contains the tunes we play in our Slow Jams.
Songs we will be playing are our core tunes:
- Old Joe Clark in A
- Soldiers Joy in D
- Liberty in D
- Blackberry Blossom in G
- Bill Cheatum in A
- Cripple Creek in A
In addition we will be playing our "Tune of the Month", Cold Frosty Morn in G, which is available down below in PDF format as well as an mp3 file of what the tune sounds like:
Cold Frosty Morn MP3
We typically play these tunes at around 90 to 100 beats per minute. After everyone has had a chance to take a lead break on it (if they desire), we then play the tune through a couple of times as a group at normal speed. Mistakes are welcome and egos are checked at the door.
Hope to see you there!
You can download a full chord sheet which contains these tunes at the link in the fourth paragraph above.
